Welding quality determines whether pressure equipment holds up in service. At Alabama Heat Exchangers, all welding procedures and welders are qualified to ASME Section IX, and our welding covers everything from new fabrication to complex repairs.
Welding processes
- GTAW (gas tungsten arc / TIG)
- SMAW (shielded metal arc / stick)
- FCAW (flux-cored arc)
- GMAW (gas metal arc / MIG)
- SAW (submerged arc)
Materials we weld
- Carbon steel
- Stainless steels, including 304/304L and 316/316L
- High-nickel alloys
- Titanium and other exotic materials
Fabrication and repair welding
Our welders work on new heat exchangers and pressure vessels built under the ASME U stamp, and on code repairs performed under the NBIC R stamp. Every weld gets a second set of eyes from our quality control team.
Frequently asked questions
ASME Section IX sets the rules for qualifying welding procedures and the welders who use them on code work. Qualified procedures and welders have been tested to show they produce sound welds for the materials and processes involved.
We are well versed in GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and SAW and select the process based on the material, joint and application.
